Housing Justice Issue
As record profits line the pockets of the 1%, millions of Canadians are grappling with the rising and unsustainable cost of living, exploitation by landlords and bosses, and policies that weaken tenant rights and fail to address growing economic injustice.
This summer, Briarpatch will dedicate an issue to a single topic of concern to working people. We’re putting together a special Housing Justice issue, bringing together a variety of voices – activists, journalists, organizers – from across the country.
From mapping tenant unions to reporting on grassroots housing actions across the country, our Housing Justice Issue will make the case for organizers’ visions for a more equitable and just housing system – one that prioritizes people over profit.
For many years, Briarpatch has devoted groundbreaking special issues to single topics, bringing together writers, artists, activists, photographers, organizers, and journalists. From our 2024 Black Radicalism Issue to our 2022 Disability Justice Issue to our 2021 Prison Abolition Issue, Briarpatch has long produced journalism that not only speaks truth to power, but remains committed to building movements on the ground.
Since its inception over 50 years ago, Briarpatch has had a finger on the pulse of political, social and environmental movements in so-called Canada, taking on issues that affect people across the country.
Briarpatch has fostered a space for writing about social justice that not only speaks truth to power, but remains committed to voices and movements on the ground, such as prison abolition, Land Back, disability justice, and more.
Stay tuned for the release of this timely and important issue.
